Are there other parts or pieces that I need to use the MicroSolv CE Window Maker™?
No, the Window Maker™ comes with a heating module that makes a 2mm window. No other tools are needed. Other heating modules of different window sizes can be purchased separately. Window Maker Ordering Information
Can I use the CE Window Maker for removla of PFA coating on copper wires?
The unit is designed specifically for use in making “detection windows” in polyimide coated fused quartz silica with a very specific thickness and outer diameter (OD) which are used for capillary electrophoresis instruments. The low amount of heat that is delivered from the heating unit is specific and designed to burn off this polyimide and […]
Can I use the MicroSolv CE Window Maker™ on all CE capillaries?
The Window Maker™ can be used on all polyimide coated, bare fused silica capillaries such at the Simplus™ or other brands. It can be used on many coated columns but you should test the column to make sure that the coating is not removed by the high heat produced to remove the polyimide. Contact the […]
Can I use the Window Maker with wires or solid core glass fiber?
The MicroSolv Window Maker is designed for removing polyimide from fused quartz silica tubing with 365um OD and ID of 25, 50, 75, 100 and 125um for use in Capillary Electrophoresis. We cannot say if the device will function to your specifications with your product as we are not familiar with it. While we do […]
Can the MicoSolvCE Window Maker™ be used to remove the polyimide from the tips of capillaries?
Yes, this is a highly recommended use of the Window Maker™. By burning off 2mm of the inlet and outlet ends of the capillaries, the injection precision of your CE unit will improve. It is believed that the reason for the improvement is prevention of the polyimide from swelling due to prolonged exposure to NaOH. For more details, contact […]
Can the Window Maker modules be used with either US or European voltage units?
The Window Maker units are currently produced with 110/120V voltage for use in US & Canada (cat# 07200-S) and the replacement modules (cat# 07301-S, 07201-S, 07204-S, 07207-S) differ only in size of the burn window and can be used with new and older Window Makers even if you have a discontinued unit with different voltages. MicroSolv Window […]
Does the replaceable heating module come with the MicroSolv CE Window Maker when you order it or does it have to be ordered separately?
When you order the Window Maker™, it is shipped with a heating module that creates a detection window that is approximately 2mm. The replacement module is available in the event you need to replace it or other size window modules are available in 1mm, 4mm, 7mm and 14mm. Window Maker Ordering Information
How can I use the Window Maker to burn a larger window than the sizes you have available?
To begin, the window sizes are approximate and we cannot put a specification on exact widths. Since the user must hold the capillary in place and if it is not held steady, the window length may be longer. Because of the approximate nature of the window length, which is generally sufficient, for users that want […]
How do I use the CE Window Maker for a different size detection windows?
The MicroSolvCE Window Maker™ comes supplied with a heating module suitable for burning a detection window that is approximately 2mm wide. Replacement Modules for 1, 4, or 7mm can be obtained separately as accessories. The default module can be removed and the alternate can be easily plugged into its place on the Window Maker unit. The […]
How long is the warranty of the MicroSolv CE Window Maker™?
One-year parts and labor. Window Maker Ordering Information
How much heat does the Window Maker™ coil produce?
We have not quantified the amount of heat produced by the coils. However, the amount of heat is sufficient to burn off the polyimide layer on a CE capillary without damaging the fused silica in any way, which is what the product is designed to do. Window Maker Ordering Information
Is it possible to make a window anywhere on the capillary using the MicroSolv CE Window Maker?
Yes, you can make the window any place along the capillary. Window Maker Ordering Information

What is Polyimide?
Polyimide is an aromatic, linear polymer. It is not a true thermoplastic because it thermally degrades before its glass transition temperature. It is not cross linked. It is used on CE capillaries because it is solvent resistant, possess barrier properties and performance at both high and low temperatures. Click here for Capillary Technical Properties. What is the normal operating wattage used in the MicroSolv Window Maker?
Normal operating wattage for the window Maker is 115 watt at 115vac (1amp). A step-down transformer from 230v to 115v is required and ideally should have an output of at least 100% above the operating wattage (115v at 2amp).to allow for variations in line voltage and load. The unit must be earthed (grounded) at all times. […]
What is the principle of polyimide removal using the MicroSolv CE Window Maker?
The principle mechanism of removal of the polyimide coating is heat. By burning the polyimide at a predetermined temperature range, it can be easily removed by hand wiping the burn area with a gentle solvent such as water or acetone using a clean, non fibrous cloth or paper.
