Additional Info:

The 40018‑05P‑2 Cogent Bidentate C18™ HPLC Column is a short, narrow‑bore reversed‑phase column engineered for LC‑MS and low‑flow analytical separations where sensitivity, speed, and robustness are critical. Built on Cogent TYPE‑C™ silica hydride technology, this column departs from conventional bonded‑silica C18 designs to deliver unique selectivity, rapid equilibration, and exceptional chemical stability.

The stationary phase consists of an aliphatic C18 chain bonded via two direct silicon–carbon bonds (bidentate attachment). This chemistry produces a surface that is highly hydrophobic yet versatile, allowing retention of compounds that often show little or no retention on traditional C18 columns. Unlike standard silica phases, this column can be used with 100 % aqueous mobile phases without loss of retention or phase collapse.

The 2.1 mm internal diameter significantly reduces solvent consumption and enhances detector sensitivity, making this column a preferred choice for LC‑MS workflows. Because of the reduced internal volume, it should be used with instrumentation capable of precise low‑flow delivery and flow cells designed for reduced flow rates.

Why Bidentate C18™ Is Different

Traditional C18 columns rely on siloxane bonding chemistry that can degrade at extreme pH or lose retention under highly aqueous conditions. The Cogent Bidentate C18™ overcomes these limitations by:

  • Utilizing a silica hydride surface instead of silanol‑rich silica

  • Employing direct Si–C bonds for superior chemical robustness

  • Supporting very low pH operation (below pH 2) without column damage

  • Allowing full aqueous mobile phases without analyte loss

This makes the column ideal for challenging reversed‑phase applications, especially when coupling to MS detection.

Key Features

Broad Mobile‑Phase Compatibility

  • Stable in 100 % aqueous mobile phases

  • Operable at very low pH (below 2)

  • Suitable for aggressive or unconventional method conditions

System Requirements

Due to its narrow‑bore format, this column requires:

  • A pump capable of precise, reproducible low‑flow delivery

  • A detector flow cell designed for reduced‑volume operation

Systems not designed for low‑flow operation may show compromised performance.

Typical Applications

  • LC‑MS and LC‑MS/MS analysis

  • High‑throughput screening

  • Compounds poorly retained on conventional C18 columns

  • Low‑pH reversed‑phase methods

  • Aqueous‑dominant mobile‑phase separations
