Additional Info:
The 40018‑05P Cogent Bidentate C18™ HPLC Column is a non‑traditional C18 reversed‑phase column engineered using Cogent TYPE‑C™ silica hydride technology. Unlike conventional bonded‑phase C18 materials, this stationary phase features an aliphatic C18 chain attached via two direct silicon–carbon bonds, resulting in exceptional chemical stability, unique selectivity, and extended column lifetime.
This bidentate attachment chemistry produces a stationary phase that is both highly hydrophobic and unusually versatile, enabling retention of compounds that often show little or no retention on standard silica‑based C18 columns. The hydride surface chemistry allows operation with 100 % aqueous mobile phases without phase collapse, while maintaining consistent retention and reproducibility.
The 4 µm particle size and 50 mm column length provide an excellent balance of resolution and speed, making this column especially popular for high‑throughput screening applications where fast equilibration and short run times are required.
Why Bidentate C18™ Is Different
Traditional C18 columns rely on siloxane bonding that can hydrolyze under extreme pH conditions or lose retention in highly aqueous mobile phases. The Cogent Bidentate C18™ design overcomes these limitations by:
Using silica hydride surfaces instead of silanol‑rich silica
Employing direct Si–C bonds for superior chemical robustness
Supporting operation at very low pH (below 2) without degradation
Allowing full aqueous mobile phases without analyte loss
This makes the column suitable for applications that challenge conventional reversed‑phase technologies.
