Analysis of Harmful Substances in Dietary Supplements - Extended Application Note

In recent years, there have been notable cases of ingredients added to dietary supplements that have been implicated in serious health issues and even death. Two such pernicious compounds are aegeline and 1,3-dimethylamylamine. These two can be readily separated from the dietary supplement matrix using the Cogent Bidentate C18 2.o and Diamond Hydride columns. Furthermore, additional compounds could also be detected, some of which were not listed among the label's ingredients. These issues can be hazardous to the consumer, and purported health benefit claims on the label may in fact be specious. For these reasons, reliable analyitcal methods are needed for analysis of components of dietary supplements.
